AUSTIN, Texas—Professor A. Mechele Dickerson has been named associate dean for academic affairs at The University of Texas School of Law. She was appointed by Dean Lawrence Sager. Her term becomes effective Sept. 1.

Dickerson was appointed as the Fulbright and Jaworski Professor in Law in January, 2006. She is an award-winning teacher whose scholarship focuses on insolvency and empirical legal research.

“I am enormously lucky to enjoy the partnership of Mechele Dickerson as we set out on the adventure of stewarding the large and exciting enterprise that is the UT School of Law,” Sager said. “Mechele is gifted with a combination of great intelligence, diplomatic skill, and personal warmth.  We will all be great beneficiaries of her willingness to assume this post,” Sager said.

Dickerson said, “I am honored that Dean Sager asked me to serve as the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.  I consider it a privilege to have the opportunity to work closely with him at the beginning of his deanship.  I am also looking forward to working closely with my faculty colleagues and with the law school’s administrators as we jointly strive to advance the law school’s teaching and scholarly endeavors."
