The Center for Women in Law will host a limited-enrollment Leadership Boot Camp for third-year law students, law clerks, and deferred associates on Friday, April 9, 2010, at the University of Texas School of Law.
The Leadership Boot Camp is an all-day training session on the skills essential for navigating a successful legal career. The day focuses on skills that women lawyers traditionally learn too late in their careers to have an impact: effective communication, self-promotion, and building internal and external networks.
The Leadership Boot Camp is the first of the Center’s planned leadership programs geared toward law students and lawyers at the beginning of their legal careers.
“Efforts to advance women in the profession have historically focused on women who have been practicing for a number of years,” said Linda Chanow, executive director of the Center. “To increase the number of women leaders, we need to start earlier to prepare law students to enter a profession that currently does not support their advancement.”
The Leadership Boot Camp—to be held from 9 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. in TNH 2. 137—includes three presentations by professional trainers, each followed by small group workshops. A reception will follow.
