- Peroni, Torres Honored with Chair Appointments
Robert
Peroni and Gerald Torres, two professors at UT Law, have been honored
with chair appointments effective Sept. 1. Peroni was promoted to the
James A. Elkins Centennial Chair in Law and Torres was promoted to the
Bryant Smith Chair in Law.

- Stanley Johanson Receives Distinguished Probate Lawyer Lifetime
Achievement Award
Johanson, who joined the Texas faculty in
1963, was honored by the Real Estate, Probate and Trust Law Section of
the State Bar of Texas with the award on June 8. The award recognizes a
distinguished Texas probate lawyer who has made significant and
sustained contributions to the Texas probate and trust law bar
throughout his or her career.

- John D. White, '72, Elected Chairman of the A&M System Board
of Regents
John D. White has been elected chairman of The
Texas A&M University System Board of Regents. White is the managing
partner in the Houston office of the Jones Walker Law Firm and is board
certified in civil trial law. He was appointed to the A&M System
Board by Texas Gov. Rick Perry in 2003, and was elected chairman by the
board's nine-member governing board in late May, 2005. His term expires
February 1, 2009.

- Martha Dickie, '80, President-Elect of State Bar of Texas
Martha S. Dickie has been chosen president-elect of the State
Bar of Texas. She is Of Counsel to the Austin office of Akin &
Almanza, LLP. Dickie will serve a one-year term as president-elect
before assuming the presidency in June 2006. Dickie will be the fifth
female president of the bar and the first female president from UT Law.
The last two presidents of the State Bar of Texas are also UT Law
graduates. They are Kelly Frels, '70 ('04-'05) and Eduardo Rodriguez,
'68 ('05-'06).

- Kristen Silverberg, '96, Nominated to be Assistant Secretary of
State (International Organization Affairs) in the Bush
Administration
Kristen Silverberg has been nominated by
President Bush to be Assistant Secretary of State (International
Organization Affairs). Silverberg currently serves as Deputy Assistant
to the President and Advisor to the Chief of Staff in the White House.
She previously served as Deputy Assistant to the President for Domestic
Policy. Until October 2003, she was a Senior Advisor to Ambassador L.
Paul Bremer in Baghdad, Iraq. Before her service in Iraq, she was a
Special Assistant to the President in the Office of the Chief of Staff.
