402 first-year law students, representing the Class of 2010, arrived in Austin in late August for two days of orientation. The first-year class represents thirty-one states and 129 undergraduate institutions.
Daniel B. Rodriguez, former dean of University of San Diego, has joined the UT Law faculty full-time. Rodriguez, who has also taught at UC-Berkeley’s Boalt Hall, is a nationally-recognized expert in law and public policy.

Kristine Huskey joins the faculty as the director of UT Law’s new clinic on National Security Law and Human Rights, founded by Professor Derek Jinks.

Sarah Buel, founder of UT Law School’s Domestic Violence Clinic and a clinical professor at the Law School, received the Rule of Law Award from the American Bar Association.

Mark McLaughlin, a rancher, banker, and lawyer from San Angelo has been named a Distinguished Alumnus of the University of Texas at Austin for 2007. McLaughlin, a 1954 graduate of the Law School, is a longtime member and past president of the Law School Foundation Board of Trustees. In addition to the festivities surrounding the presentation of this award, the Law School is hosting a reception for McLaughlin on Friday, September 28, 2007. The reception will begin at 4:00 p.m. in the Jamail Pavilion at UT Law School. UT Law on the Road: Upcoming Alumni Reception

Dean Larry Sager and other members of the faculty and administration will be in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, October 10, 2007 for a D.C.-area alumni reception. The reception will be held at The Oval Room, 800 Connecticut Avenue, from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m. All UT Law alumni and friends who live, or who will be, in the area are encouraged to attend.

The Law School’s annual tailgate party will take place on the South Lawn of the Law School before the UT v. Nebraska football game on Saturday, October 27, 2007. Eduardo Rodriguez, ’68, and his merry band of cooks will once again provide outstanding barbecue.
