The officers of 2011 - 2012

The officers of the Asian Law Students Association are committed to upholding the organization’s goals of promoting diversity, creating community, and assisting members with professional development.

Robbie Carman: President
from Houston
Class of 2012

Cornell University
Operational Research and Engineering

About Me
I remember wandering into my first ALSA meeting 1L year and thinking to myself (1) that these people seemed pretty cool, and (2) that they would be amazing professional colleagues someday. Sadly, most of those people have since left ALSA for greener pastures, but as both turned out to be true, and I think my main responsibility as president is to make sure those same aspects remain alive and well for another year. And fortunately for me, we have such a great group of upperclassmen and officers this year that that responsibility won’t be very hard. Law-wise, I’m interested broadly in business law, more specifically in securities and bankruptcy law. Outside of the law, I’m an avid intramural athlete, a struggling intermediate guitar player, and most importantly, an inhibition-less karaoke singer.

Julie Lee: Vice President Internal
from Seoul, South Korea
Class of 2013

Seoul National University
Economics

About Me
I found special friends and mentors in and through ALSA, and I’m sure future ALSA members will as well. Come join us! Tax law and immigration law fascinate me, and my passions are: going to art museums, swimming, and photography.

Adrian Lee Dunbar: Vice President External
from Houston
Class of 2012

Union College
Philosophy and History
National Taiwan University
Chinese Literature

About Me
As External Vice President of ALSA, my responsibilities include maintaining relationships with our network of employers and mentors, in addition to other organizations, such as the Asian American Bar Association. I also plan events, especially those related to career and academic success. I also organize ALSA’s bi-monthly dim sum. In the future, I hope to be a transactional lawyer, and I have already had great experiences in real estate, oil & gas, and corporate law over the course of my past four internships. I am fluent in Chinese and can help Rappoport scholarship recipients verify internship documents. In my free time I train boxing and judo, and take care of my two adorable shi-tzu dogs.

Amelia Yang Xu: Treasurer
from Beijing, China
Class of 2013

Peking University
Law and Economics

About Me
I am absolutely fascinated by other cultures and customs, and I'm eager to learn American regulation system with Chinese legal background. That's one of the reasons cross-broader transaction, international law and immigration law are close to my heart. In my non-law life, I love hanging out with friends, swimming, and trying new restaurants.

James Wang: Alumni Director
from Houston
Class of 2012

The University of Texas at Austin
Computer Science

About Me
After graduating from UT in 2006, I worked at IBM for almost three years before realizing software engineering was not where I wanted to spend the rest of my life. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would end up in law school but here I am, two years in. I didn't quite know what to expect when I first came here but it was the best decision of my life. Law school has been one of the best experiences I've ever had. I've somehow managed to survive the first two years of law school and plan on fully enjoying my last year, filling it with hours of basketball, soccer, and football.

Han Gao: Community Service Chair & LLM Coordinator
from Zhengzhou
Class of 2012

Donghua University
Finance

About Me
I am responsible for taking care of the LLMs and stuff and helping them settle into Austin every year. In addition, I plan to host a number of events for international students and their affiliates. I am also in charge of planning community service evens or ALSA members. I am originally from Zhengzhou, a city in China about the size of Houston, and came to the United States in 2009. I enjoy hiking, basketball, and Chinese food, of course.
