What is The Domestic Violence
Survivor Support Network
Mission
An organization of students from the University of
Texas at Austin from within the School of Law, School of Social Work, and
McCombs School of Business, working together to help survivors of domestic
violence in the Central Texas area. This volunteer organization is committed to
helping the survivors realize economic and life empowerment. Volunteers help
survivors build strong futures through planning a manageable budget, finding and
keeping employment, creating individualized safety plans for home and work, and
building a strong community of survivors.
History
The support network began when a small group of determined
and compassionate individuals decided to take action and make a difference in
the lives of some of the survivors of the UT Austin Domestic Violence
Clinic. Working with UT Law School faculty students and soliciting new
membership has allowed the center to grow and intern expand the services DVSSN can
provide survivors of domestic violence.
