What is SBA?
The
Student Bar Association is the student government of the law school. The
SBA is governed by a Board of Governors, consisting of the executive
officers, representatives from each class year, an ABA representative,
two State Bar representatives, the editor of the writ and a UT Senate
representative.
The
SBA serves in programming and policy-making roles. In addition to selling
lockers and running a successful book exchange, the SBA coordinates
social events such as weekly "bar reviews," tailgating parties
for UT home games, the Ex Parte Halloween Party, and the Spring Casino
Night Formal. The SBA also provides a fingerprinting service for 1Ls (for
the Declaration of Intent), allocates funds to various law school
organizations, and organizes various community service activities.
The
Student Bar Association is also a policy-making board and acts as a
liaison between the student body, the law school administration, and the
University of Texas student government and administration. The dean
regularly seeks input from the Board of Governors on policy matters, and
the SBA has sponsored open forums with the administration to discuss
issues concerning law students. In addition, the SBA selects and solicits
reports from the students who currently serve on the student-faculty
committees at the school. Beginning in 2007, the SBA also facilitates
Student Org Central located in TNH 2.128.
All
law students are members of the Student Bar Association and may attend
all of the meetings of the Board of Governors. Meeting times are posted
in the SBA office window and can also be obtained by e-mailing the SBA
President or Secretary.
The
Board of Governors staffs the SBA office, Student Org Central, and the
Book Exchange (TNH 2.128) each Monday – Thursday from 10:30 am – 2:30 pm.
Feel free to stop by the office anytime, or contact your Board
representative here.
