Greetings!
This is going to be an exciting year for the Thurgood
Marshall Legal Society at the University of Texas School of Law!
TMLS is named after the distinguished Supreme Court Justice and
pioneer of civil rights, Thurgood Marshall. The organization was
established in 1970 to address the concerns of African-American
students at the University of Texas School of Law and serves as the
University of Texas School of Law’s chapter of the National Black
Law Students Association. As an organization, we are over 60 members
strong.
Throughout the school year, TMLS remains committed to
encouraging the professional success of its members. We advance
these goals by inviting speakers to our bi-weekly meetings,
presenting workshops, holding political awareness events, and
conducting minority career panels. TMLS promotes the academic
success of our members through workshops related to resume writing,
networking, obtaining judicial clerkships, exam preparation, and
more. We host an annual Symposium and invite attorneys, judges, and
legal academics from all over the country. We are also committed to
promoting cultural awareness among the student body and fostering
positive relationships with other organizations within the law
school, in the greater university, and in the community. Our members
are classroom leaders, top judicial clerks, moot court and mock
trial champions, NBLSA leaders, journal editors, and society
mentors. We are truly a driving force at UT Law, and our members
display excellence and integrity in all that they do.
Our Executive Board is currently hard at work
developing a full program of activities for the 2009-2010 law school
year. I have never had a greater honor than serving the current TMLS
membership and its remarkable alumni. I hope that you will come to
learn, as I have, about the many treasures the TMLS holds. Please
find updates for our activities online through this website and on
our
Facebook
page. Additionally, please feel free to contact me personally
with any questions you may have at
tmlspresident@gmail.com.
