Regular Meetings
Every first and third Tuesday of the
month, TMLS holds a regular meeting to discuss upcoming events and
opportunities for TMLS members.
1L Welcome Happy Hour
At the beginning of every year, TMLS holds
a happy hour at Dave & Buster's to welcome the incoming 1Ls.
ABLA Mentoring Program
Every year, TMLS provides mentoring
opportunities to TMLS members by partnering them with Austin Black
Lawyers’ Association attorneys. ABLA Mentors meet with their
mentees at least once a month and both attend a mixer with other
TMLS & ABLA members once a semester.
Annual ABLA-TMLS Picnic
Every year, TMLS partners with the Austin
Black Lawyers’ Association to host a picnic for the members of both
organizations where members can meet over food and games.
Annual NBLSA Convention
Every year, TMLS sends members to the
National Black Law Student Association's Annual Convention to
represent TMLS at the annual conference and sends teams to compete
in national mock trial and moot court competitions.
Annual RMBLSA Convention
Every year, TMLS sends members to the
Rocky Mountain Regional Black Law Student Association's Annual
Convention to represent TMLS at the annual conference and sends
teams to compete in regional mock trial and moot court competitions.
Annual TMLS Banquet
Every spring semester, TMLS holds an
annual banquet for its members.
Annual TMLS Boat Cruise
Every fall semester, TMLS hosts a boat
cruise for its members.
Ashaki Girls/Boys Mentoring Program
Every Friday at the Austin Learning
Center, TMLS members mentor middle school and high school-aged
at-risk teenagers who have been removed from their home schools for
breaking rules, disorderly conduct, etc.
Brown Bag Lunch Series
Every year, TMLS hosts a brown bag lunch
series over several weeks where employers from various industries
are brought in to speak to TMLS members and answer their questions
regarding a particular area of law or industry.
Community Service
Every semester, TMLS members engage in a
variety of community service activities. Examples include
volunteer activities at Meals on Wheels and Habitat for Humanity.
Diversity Education Weekend
Held by the law school, Diversity
Education Weekend brings various minority organizations together for
lectures, panels, and a reception.
Fulbright Mentorship
Every year, TMLS provides mentoring
opportunities to TMLS members by partnering them with attorneys from
Fulbright & Jaworski LLP.
Hurricane Katrina Relief Trip
During the winter break, TMLS sends
students to provide legal aid and volunteer in other ways to help
re-build New Orleans.
Interviewing Workshops
In the spring semester, TMLS, often in
conjunction with other law school organizations and law firms,
hoffers a workshop to help members build up their interviewing
skills.
NALP Mail-Out Session for 1Ls
In November of every year, TMLS, often in
conjunction with other law school organizations, helps its members
find summer employment by organizing a mass mailing of resumes to
the potential employers identified by the specific member.
National Black Pre-Law Admissions &
Preparation Conference and Law Fair
Every year, TMLS will send its members to
the National Black Pre-Law Admissions & Preparation Conference and
Law Fair to recruit future TMLS members.
Resume Workshop
In the fall semester, TMLS, often in
conjunction with other law school organizations and law firms,
offers a workshop to help members build up their resume drafting
skills.
UT Law Spring Symposium
Held by the law school, the spring
symposium brings various minority organizations together for
lectures, panels, and a reception. |
