Email Elizabeth Bangs

Elizabeth T. Bangs - Assistant Dean for Student Affairs

Dean Bangs is the primary advocate for law students within the School of Law and the University. She counsels students on academic, personal, and professional matters. Together with the members of the staff, she coordinates and supports a range of student services, programming, and special events. Dean Bangs graduated from Harvard College and Harvard Law School and has worked as a judicial law clerk and a trial attorney in the United States Department of Justice. Prior to coming to the University of Texas, she was the director of legal research and writing at Harvard Law School and the University of Oklahoma College of Law.  She has also taught civil procedure and disability law and has experience in academic support and bar preparation. Dean Bangs lives in Austin with her husband, who teaches religious studies at the University of Texas, and their two children, Zack (born in 2011) and Charlotte (“Charlie,” born in 2013). Her door is always open to students.

Brandi L. Welch - Director of Academic Advising

Brandi Welch serves as the primary academic advisor in the School of Law. She manages a series of programs designed to assist students from day one of law school to the final day of the bar exam and beyond. Students are always welcome in Brandi’s office for counsel on issues personal and academic. Brandi graduated from the University of Michigan and taught high school in Houston for four years before attending UT Law. After graduation, Brandi was an associate at Vinson & Elkins in New York and Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati in Austin before returning to the law school in 2008. Brandi and her husband Aaron recently welcomed a daughter, Alice, into the world and can’t wait to introduce her to all of the greatness Austin has to offer. An avid college football fan, Brandi sincerely hopes that the Longhorns and the Wolverines never play each other again. Ever.

Jeana L. Driggers - Director of Student Services

Jeana Driggers serves as the Director of Student Services in the School of Law. In this role, Jeana oversees all Registrar related tasks in the Student Affairs Office. Jeana graduated from the University of Iowa and Hunter College in New York City, where she studied fine arts. While living in New York she was the Registrar and Director of Service Learning and Internships at The Dalton School. Prior to coming to the School of Law, Jeana was an Assistant Registrar in the Registrar’s Office on main campus. She gained knowledge of student academic records, transcripts, registration, course scheduling, diplomas, and certifications. Jeana is a painter and has an art studio at the Pump Project Art Complex in East Austin. Make sure you attend the East Austin Studio tour in November and swing by her studio to say hello.

Cynthia L. Aranda - Registrar

Cynthia Aranda serves in the capacity as Law Registrar and has been privileged to work with law students since 1998.  She is also the Graduate Coordinator, our liaison with other graduate departments at UT.  The main duties of the Registrar include managing student records, compiling course schedules, and assisting students with all academic needs, such as registration, exams, grades, and graduation.  Cynthia, who was born and raised in Elgin—a community a few miles east of Austin—brings that small-town atmosphere and country vibe to our office.  She is a criminal justice major with a BA degree from St. Edward’s University here in Austin.

Michelle Garrett - Assistant Registrar

Michelle is your contact for Law school registration. She helps students with registering for classes, adding and dropping, using the online waitlists, and adjusting schedules throughout each registration period. She also maintains student records, assists students with filling out forms, emails timely information and reminders, sets exam dates, and registers students who are accepted to clinics and internships. Michelle is a native Texan, y’all, and she earned a B.A. degree in English from the University of North Texas. She has a passion for photography and social media, loves camping and traveling with her husband, skates, and plays tennis very badly. She has four four-legged kids: Olivia, Denali, Dexter, and Tesla.

José L. Mendoza - Administrative Associate

José is your first point of contact for student information and student communications, including mass mail campaigns (Law Mail), event publicizing, and coordination. He also administers Course-Instructor Surveys and supports exam administration, including the maintenance of UT Law secure examination software and the recruiting, hiring, training, and supervision of exam proctors. José is a strong believer of the public education system and plans to pursue a teaching certification program in the near future. He's also an avid francophile and musician, and will sing with you anytime, anywhere.

Justin Fuller - Administrative Associate

The newest member of the SAO team, Justin serves as a liaison between law students and law licensing authorities, i.e. state bars.  He recently moved to Austin after graduating with an MA in Linguistics from The University of Texas at Arlington.  He is originally from Missouri, but he lived in the Houston area for over a decade, graduating from the University of Houston with a BA in Spanish and English and working in the Office of Graduate Studies at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas.  A strong supporter of education, Justin has special interest in higher education administration.  He enjoys learning languages, eating Tex-Mex, and watching sitcoms.

Rachel Ervin - Administrative Assistant

Rachel Ervin is Dean Bangs’ assistant and the first stop for student organization and journal resources.  She helps students with their accounting and travel forms.  She also assists in the planning of events such as Orientation, Explore UT, Society events, Family Weekend and the Sunflower Ceremony.  Rachel graduated with a degree in Recording Arts from Full Sail University in Winter Park, FL.  She earned her BBA in Management Information Systems from Baylor University.  Recently she moved to Austin after working for 14 years as her family restaurant’s Operations & Marketing Coordinator.  As a licensed Zumba Fitness instructor, she loves editing audio and choreographing routines.  Some of her other passions are tennis, playing the violin, and travel.  The thing she loves most about being in Austin is the abundance of concerts and festivals in the Live Music Capital of the World!
