This course is restricted to upper division students only.
In this course the structure of the U.S. health care system is defined, along with its financing and the licensing, oversight, and the duties and liabilities of its various professionals, beginning with physicians as the model. Examined will by the influence of the FDA and other regulatory agencies on the system, as well as recent attempts to bring change to the system. Addressed will be patient rights, and medical science and its use as evidence. While the major emphasis will be on substantive law, significant attention will be given to procedural law. The course will be taught from a syllabus prepared by Prof. Watts.
