Description
This course provides a critical examination of controversial current cases in the Supreme Court.  The required casebook is Choper's paperback, "Leading Cases in Constitutional Law" (2011).  This will be supplemented by reference to other cases as needed.  The course will center on such politically charged topical issues as gun control, English-only laws, religious exemptions, takings of property, abortion, homosexuality, hate speech, student rights, elections, immigration, and freedom of association, as well as structural developments in the allocation of governmental powers.  This course is closed to first-year students.  Three hours.
