This seminar will survey several recent U.S.  Supreme Court cases where friend of the court or amicus curiae briefs seemingly played a significant role in framing and/or deciding the issues presented to the court.  Students will conduct independent research and prepare a paper focusing on a particular amicus or amici in shaping an appeal.
