Call for Nominations for the 2013 Distinguished Public Service Award

Established in 1989 by the LBJ School Alumni Association, the Distinguished Public Service Award is presented each year to an LBJ School alumnus whose career and public service record best represents the values on which the School was founded. The winner is presented with his or her award at the annual Alumni Reunion Weekend each spring.

Qualifications and Nomination Procedure
Nominees must have made significant contributions to public policy, such as the following: promoted the advancement of the public affairs vocation; been engaged in community service and/or volunteerism; shown commitment to the LBJ School and its mission; and demonstrated leadership, the ability to work well with diverse people, and other attributes (honors/awards, etc.).

Nomination packages should include:

  • A cover letter stating the justification for the nomination
  • A current version of the nominee's resume, curriculum vitae, or biography
  • Additional letters of support
  • Other supporting items (e.g., newspaper articles, lists of publications or sponsored legislation, etc.)
  • The name, address, telephone number, and e-mail address of the individual(s) submitting the nomination

Anyone may submit nominations and all graduates of the LBJ School are eligible to be nominated. To reactivate a nomination that was submitted within the past two years, the nominator must submit a new cover letter and, if needed, provide updated information.

Deadline

Submit nominations by October 22, 2013 to the Alumni Board Reunion and Recognition Committee, c/o the Office of Alumni Affairs or through U.S. mail to LBJ School of Public Affairs, P.O. Box Y, Austin, TX, 78713.

Policy Research Projects Available Online

A joint project between the LBJ School and the UT Libraries digitized the full text of the entire collection of over 160 printed Policy Research Projects in the UT Digital Repository (UTDR). All projects should be available at the time of this article.

Fun Fact from the LBJ School Alumni Board Giving Committee




Did you know that the LBJ School has the highest rate of alumni giving at The University of Texas at Austin? Yes, indeed: 12.4% of LBJ School alumni made a donation to the School in 2012. While that is impressive compared to the rest of the campus, to translate this, it means that 400 out of the approximately 3,400 alumni among us gave last year. We know that the strength of our community and the experiences we all had at the LBJ School means we can surpass this number year after year! Please consider choosing an annual amount that is comfortable to you and making a gift to the LBJ School.  As a reminder, all annual fund gifts go to the LBJ School fellowship initiative. Your gifts make a big difference in supporting this generation of LBJ School students with much needed fellowship support.
