With Texas wildflowers, music, wine, and good friends in abundance, this event will launch the anniversary celebration in style. Alumni from throughout the LBJ School's 30-year history--as well as others who have been part of the LBJ School community over the years--will have the opportunity to become acquainted or reacquainted as we toast the School and the Wildflower Center's founder and namesake.

Alumni Panel Discussions and
Breakout Sessions, LBJ School

To celebrate the LBJ School's long tradition of bringing policy experts together to discuss current issues, the day's program will begin with faculty-alumni panels on two policy areas of particular importance to the LBJ School community: social policy and international affairs. The afternoon will be devoted to meeting in breakout sessions to explore issues and career opportunities in local, state, and federal government, in the nonprofit sector, and in the consulting area.


9:00 a.m.-10:45. Policy Panel 1--Social Policy.
Led by LBJ School Professors Kenneth Apfel (Class of 1978), Ray Marshall, David Warner, and Kenneth Tolo, the discussion will focus on such topics as Social Security reform, income inequality, and aging policy, and national health policy.

11:00 a.m.- 12:15 p.m. Policy Panel 2--International Policy. Led by Professors Bobby R. Inman, Elspeth Rostow, Sidney Weintraub, and Frank Gavin, this panel will examine some of the homeland security and diplomatic issues that have arisen post-September 11.

12:30-1:30. Box Lunch Break. Classes of the '70s, '80s, and '90s through 2001 will gather in separate rooms to reminisce and network.

1:30-3:00 p.m. Breakout Sessions: Federal, State, and Local Government; Nonprofit Organizations; Consulting Firms. Alumni from each sector will be invited to speak about current issues and trends.

Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum

The setting for the dinner is the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum, a new facility with a uniquely Texas look and feel. The evening's program will salute those who were responsible for the LBJ School's early success as well as those who have contributed to its development over the past 30 years. Former Dean Elspeth Rostow, cochair of the 30th Anniversary Committee, will preside.

30th Anniversary LBJ School Graduation Convocation, LBJ Auditorium
George H. W. BushGeorge H. W. Bush, 41st President of the United States, will be the speaker for this year's ceremony, which will honor graduates in the Class of 2002 as well members of the Class of 1972. The Class of 2002 invited President Bush to be the anniversary speaker not only because of his lifetime commitment to public service (as legislator, agency head, diplomat, and chief executive) but also because of his close personal friendship with the family of Lyndon Johnson and his support of public policy education.
