30th Anniversary Gala Celebration and Reunion, May 16-18, 2002, Austin, Texas

President and Mrs. Johnson at Library site

President and Mrs. Johnson stand before the new Library and School that bear his name. The buildings were still under construction when the LBJ School began classes in fall 1970.

When the LBJ School of Public Affairs opened its doors in September 1970, an entering class of 18 students and five faculty members waded through mud to enter a still-unfinished Sid Richardson Hall, climbed up through the first-floor scaffolding to occupy the vast spaces on the second floor, and launched a pioneering new master's program at UT Austin.

Now, three decades later, we have approximately 2,300 graduates scattered throughout this country and abroad in positions of increasing influence. Our current enrollment totals 272.

We wish to invite you to an all-school, all-graduate reunion in Austin in May 2002. With the help of our Anniversary Committee of 30--made up of one representative of each graduating class--we've planned a three-day round-up that will provide an opportunity for graduates to meet with both old and new faculty, participate in panel discussions, re-encounter classmates, and enjoy a social program extending from the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center to a session in the new University Club. All of this will culminate in a May 18th commencement ceremony in the LBJ Auditorium where former President George H. W. Bush will deliver the address, with members of the Johnson family beside him on the stage. It will be an event to remember.

Reserve your piece of the cake now.
