- In January 2001, the Mexican
government presented LBJ School Professors Victoria
Rodríguez and Peter
Ward with the Ohtli Medal, the highest award granted by Mexico's Ministry
of Foreign Relations to non-Mexicans. The medal recognizes those whose work
is deemed to have contributed significantly to the furtherance of U.S.-Mexico
relations.
- LBJ School faculty members
were often in the media limelight before and after the 2000 presidential
election. Speaking on topics ranging from the Texas political scene to George
W. Bush's leadership style, the faculty members offered a vantage point
of great interest to the international media: policy experts from a major
public affairs school in a major public university located near both the
Governor's Mansion and the Bush national campaign headquarters.
- National security and international
affairs expert Admiral
Bobby R. Inman joined the LBJ School faculty in fall 2001 as the holder
of the Lyndon B. Johnson Centennial Chair in National Policy. Inman, a former
Director of the National Security Agency and Deputy Director of the Central
Intelligence Agency, will develop a new area of research at the LBJ School
focusing on the nexus between national security and international economic
policy.
