Background: Everyone has heard the arguments for and against the U.S. presence in Iraq. The next question facing policymakers and the citizens that elect them is when and how do we leave Iraq? The LBJ School Dialectic Dialogue Series and the U.S. Tour of Duty have brought together a panel of speakers from diverse perspectives on the war to sort through all of the politics and address the policy.

Nadia McCaffrey is the mother of Sgt. Patrick McCaffrey, who was killed in Iraq on June 22, 2004. She is a member of Gold Star Families for Peace and Military Families Speak Out. She does not support the war in Iraq.

Ray McGovern served as a CIA analyst for 27 years. From 1981 to 1985 he conducted daily briefings for Ronald Reagan's vice president, George H.W. Bush. McGovern is on the Steering Group of Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity, and is co-director of the Servant Leadership School, an outreach ministry in the inner city of Washington, D.C. He is featured in Robert Greenwald's "Uncovered" and John Pilger’s “Break the Silence.” He does not support the war in Iraq.

Trampes Crow served in the military in Iraq and has returned to complete his graduate studies at the LBJ School of Public Affairs. He supports the mission in Iraq.

The Dialectic Dialogue Series is a student-led initiative of the LBJ School of Public Affairs designed to create a public forum for students, professionals, and academics to discuss opposing policy options. The forum seeks to foster understanding and tolerance on both sides of the issue.

U.S. Tour of Duty (ustourofduty.org) is a non-profit project of social and environmental entrepreneurs, supports and promotes the anti-war advocacy of Iraq veterans, military families, performers, and policy analysts by organizing public forums, developing media strategies, and producing video content.

Free and open to the public. For more information, contact Matt Harriger, coordinator of the Dialectic Dialogue at youngharriger@yahoo.com, or Genevieve Van Cleve, U.S. Tour of Duty at genvc@yahoo.com or 512/220-1740.
