LBJ School holds debate on constitutional ban of same-sex marriage

Event: A debate on the proposed Texas constitutional amendment to ban marriage between same-sex partners, led by the bill’s author, Texas State Representative Warren Chisum (R-Pampa), and Austin attorney Anne Wynne, who opposes the bill.

When: 12:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 30.

Where: UT School of Law, Jeffers Court Room 3.140, (map and directions available at http://www.utexas.edu/law/about/parking.html).

Background: State Representative Warren Chisum and Austin attorney Anne Wynne will square off for a second debate on Proposition 2, which calls for a constitutional ban on same sex marriage in Texas on the November 8 ballot. Chisum and Wynne first debated the issue at an Austin Community College event on September 15. In this round, they will be joined by UT Law student James Spencer (for) and LBJ School student Marti Bier (against.

The Dialectic Dialogue Series is a student-led initiative of the LBJ School of Public Affairs designed to create a public forum for students, professionals, and academics to discuss opposing policy options. The forum seeks to go beyond the simple trading of rhetoric and into a dialogue that will foster understanding and tolerance on both sides of the issue.
