On January 25, the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs will welcome Antoine van Agtmael, founder, chairman, and chief investment officer of Emerging Markets Management, LLC. He will discuss his recent book, The Emerging Markets Century: How a New Breed of World Class Companies Is Overtaking the World, which profiles the dramatic rise of 25 world-class multinationals that are changing the face of globalization, including Korea's Samsung Electronics, China's Lenovo, Brazil's Embraer, and India's Infosys Technologies. The book provides a glimpse of how these virtually unknown companies have gained world-wide acclaim, identifying the major players, revealing their strategies, and explaining the implications of this major shift in world economic power. After the discussion, he will take audience questions.
Antoine van Agtmael coined the term "emerging markets" and his firm manages over $20 billion in these markets. He has held several senior level positions at the World Bank Group, including Division Chief in its Treasury operations and served as Deputy Director of the Capital Markets Department at the International Finance Corporation. He is also the author of Emerging Securities Markets and The World's Emerging Stock Markets. He received his M.B.A. from New York University, an M.A. from Yale University and a B.A. from the Netherlands School of Economics.
Antoine van Agtmael's book, The Emerging Markets Century, is available for purchase at Follett's Intellectual Property, 2402 Guadalupe Street, Austin, Texas 78705.
