Offered by the LBJ School and the UT Center for Post-Soviet and East European Studies, the program addresses the increased need for specialists with a thorough understanding of the culture, economics, geography, history, and politics of the former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe.
Like similar joint academic programs offered by the LBJ School, the new program combines advanced policy studies with interdisciplinary area studies and language.
To obtain the two degrees, students must complete a minimum of 36 semester hours of work in public affairs and 30 hours in post-Soviet and East European studies. These hours include a six-hour thesis based on original research and a four-hour summer internship.
Currently, the LBJ School has seven other joint degree programs--public affairs and business, communication, engineering, law, Asian studies, Latin American studies, and Middle Eastern studies.
