In early fall, the group sponsored an evening of cultural exchange so that students, faculty, and staff could have an opportunity to meet the School's many international visitors. The social featured a potluck dinner, which included an array of dishes from different parts of the world.
According to PAMLICO President Laurie Valencia, the group hopes to publish a cookbook in the spring that would include the recipes for these dishes. Money collected from the sale of the cookbook would be used to fund an ongoing public service project sponsored by PAMLICO. Like the LBJ School's Life Skills/Education Awareness Program, PAMLICO works with students from Johnston High School, and the group hopes to gather enough money through fundraising efforts to give a scholarship to a high school student.
In conjunction with LEAP, PAMLICO is also planning an issues forum for Johnston High School students on career and life options. The topic of the forum will be announced in the spring.
At the LBJ School, PAMLICO sponsored a Thanksgiving potluck meal for students who could not go home for the holidays. On December 10th, the group will host a "winter study break room" so that students who are at school all day during the final exam period will have a place to use for brief retreats. "Pastries and refreshments will be set up in one of the classrooms," Valencia said. "This provides a nice break and allows students to mingle with others for a while." The event is open to all LBJ School students.
