Glen Cope accepts Illinios deanship

Associate Dean Glen Hahn Cope has been named Dean and Professor at the School of Public Affairs and Administration at the University of Illinois at Springfield. Cope, who has served as Associate Dean at the LBJ School since 1991, will assume her new position in July.

At the School of Public Affairs and Administration, which includes both undergraduate and graduate students, Cope will oversee six academic programs--public administration, policy standards, human services administration, community arts management, legal studies, and labor relations.

In addition, she will be responsible for a number of special programs through the School's Institute of Public Affairs. These include an Illinois legislative internship program, policy and management grant research, continuing education programs, local public radio and television stations, and Illinois Issues, a publication focusing on public policy.

Cope has a Ph.D. in public administration from Ohio State University and has authored or coauthored numerous publications in the areas of budgeting, financial management, innovation, and state and local finance. Research interests include state and local budgeting and financial management and local governments' responses to fiscal stress.

Currently, Cope is serving a four-year term on the Executive Council of the National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration (NASPAA). She has also been a member of the NASPAA Commission on Peer Review and Accreditation and of the NASPAA Task Force on Revitalizing the Public Service.

Cope is also the LBJ School's representative to the Association for Public Policy Analysis and Management (APPAM) and serves as chair of the group's long-term goals committee. She is the former chair of APPAM's institutional members caucus.

A faculty member at the LBJ School since 1981, Cope served as graduate adviser from 1983 to 1985. In 1985 students presented her with the Texas Excellence Teaching Award. Currently Cope serves as the chair of the UT Austin Faculty Welfare Committee.
