Boske appointed new associate dean

Professor Leigh Boske has been named to succeed Glen Hahn Cope as the LBJ School's Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.

Boske, an economist with wide experience in transportation and regulatory policy, has been on the LBJ School faculty since 1977. Prior to that he was Chief of Economic and Environmental Analysis at the Wisconsin Department of Transportation and Senior Staff Economist at the National Transportation Policy Commission of the U.S. Congress.

During his 19 years at the LBJ School, Boske has been both a successful teacher (he won the Texas Excellence Teaching Award in 1983) and a productive researcher. Under contract with such agencies as the U.S. Department of Transportation, Interstate Commerce Commission, Texas Governor's Policy Council, and the Texas Department of Transportation, he has directed 17 LBJ School policy research projects, including a current project on the role of Texas' seaport and waterborne commerce on international trade. Since 1991 he has also served as Director of the LBJ School's Center for the Study of Human Resources.

In 1993-94, Boske took a 15-month sabbatical leave to serve as policy adviser to the Texas Transportation Commission, which oversees the Texas Department of Transportation. Since 1994 he has continued to be a consultant to the commission.
