National public administrators group honors John Hall and Carron Scott

The North Texas chapter of the National Forum for Black Public Administrators (NFBPA) presented John Hall (LBJ Class of '78) and Carron Scott (Class of '94) its first Newcomer Award at the annual Leadership Conference held in Austin in January.

The award is presented to young professionals in the public policy field whose activities enhance the mission of the organization. Established in 1983, the NFBPA is committed to strengthening the capacity of state and local government managers through intensive training, professional development, and a network of black public leadership.

According to LBJ School Professor Lodis Rhodes, a former NFBPA board member, the award is presented to individuals who have actively contributed to the growth of the organization and represent the "best of what you want in a young professional."

Hall, who is president of his own business and local government consulting firm, is the 1993 recipient of the LBJ School Alumni Association's Distinguished Alumnus Award. His career in government has included gubernatorial appointments as chair of the Texas Water Commission and the Texas Natural Resource Conservation Commission as well as positions with the Texas General Land Office and Lower Colorado River Authority.

"John Hall's career and public service activities reflect the highest goals and ideals of the NFBPA," said Rhodes, adding that Hall's involvement with young people as a mentor led to his recognition for the award.

Scott, who is with Andersen Consulting in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, is involved in health care issues in government policy. From 1993 to 1995, while working on her public affairs degree, Scott served as the student member of the 26-member NFBPA board. During that time, she worked with other college students to get them involved in the local chapter and helped revamp the organization's young-professional track so that it would place a greater emphasis on students as emerging professionals.
