Dedicated to Professor Barbara Jordan, this year's issue includes a range of articles by LBJ students as well as a "Practitioner's Corner" piece by the president and chief executive officer of the Kettering Foundation. New features include a book review, two short advocacy pieces, and an index of past LBJ Journal articles.
The journal's long articles address the topics of social security reform in Mexico (Norris Cochran, author), federal budget policy formulation in times of divided government (Peter Bradford), international cooperation to protect endangered species (Melissa Lauderdale), reform and myth in the AFDC program (Susan Schieffer), and the integration of cultural factors into sustainable development policy (Jennifer Harmon).
The shorter articles look at the positive side of negative campaigns (Shawn Garvey) and at the ongoing debate about government regulation of the Internet (Mark Youman).
The book review (by Elizabeth Hargrave) discusses the merits of the 1995 book, Myth and Measurement: The New Economics of the Minimum Wage, by David Card and Alan Krueger.
Managing editors of the 1996 Journal are Sheila Cavanagh, Matthew Watson, and Steven Wiese. Associate Editors are Stacey Abrams, Abby Cramer, Shreedhar Kanetkar, Carol Kim, and Stephanie Upp. Beverly Bunch is faculty adviser.
