Barbara Jordan's influence on Texas education, history saluted

The Foundation for Women's Resources dedicated its Texas Women's History Project Video/CD-ROM educational package to the legacy of Barbara Jordan at a ceremony held at the LBJ School on March 6.

The video/CD-ROM package, currently in production, explores the lives of hundreds of Texas women who contributed to the state's development. When completed, the educational package will be distributed free of charge to public seventh grade Texas history classes and for a minimal fee to other interested parties.

"This educational project honors the legacy of Barbara Jordan," said Cathy Bonner, President of the Foundation for Women's Resources. "She loved the power of education and the excitement and eagerness of children of all ages in the classroom."

The new educational package is a culmination and enhancement of the 15-year-old Texas Women's History Project, which includes several books, a permanent display, and several traveling exhibits. One of the traveling exhibits, a pictorial chronicle of the lives and contributions of Texas women, was on display at the LBJ School during March.

"When the traveling exhibit was first done, it was considered state of the art," Bonner said. "A lot has changed since then. . . . We are honored to dedicate this project to Barbara Jordan, who inspired us to have our voices heard."

The educational video will be completed by August 1996 and the CD-ROM package by the spring of 1997.
