Colorado
Governor Bill Owens (LBJ Class of 1975) is the recipient of
the Graduate School's Outstanding Alumnus Award for 2000.
Owens, who was elected governor in 1998, previously served
as state treasurer, state senator, and state representative
in Colorado. As part of the award a $5,000 fellowship has
been set up by the university in Owens' name. The fellowship
will be awarded to an LBJ School student for the 2000-2001
academic year. This is the second consecutive year that an
LBJ School graduate has been selected for the award. Social
Security Commissioner Ken Apfel (Class of 1978) received the
honor last year.
