Students recognize outstanding teachers, inaugurate lifetime service award during Faculty Appreciation Week

Professor Emeritus Lynn Anderson, who has held teaching, research, and administrative positions at the university since 1946, received the first Award for Lifetime Service to the LBJ Community.

Declaring the week of April 10-19 the second annual Faculty Appreciation Week, LBJ School students announced faculty award winners in each of five categories of "best practices" in teaching.

The winners were:

  • Category 1--challenges students through a variety of techniques: Ken Ashworth
     
  • Category 2--establishes and inspires high standards for students: Ken Matwiczak
     
  • Category 3--continually reinvigorates course curriculum: Chandler Stolp
     
  • Category 4--provides professional development and mentoring: Ken Tolo
     
  • Category 5--provides constructive and timely written and oral feedback: Bill Black

This year, students added two special awards to recognize faculty who have made outstanding contributions. Professor Victoria Rodríguez received special recognition for her ability to inspire and challenge students. Professor Emeritus Lynn Anderson was named as the first recipient of the Award for Lifetime Service to the LBJ Community.

The winners were honored at a reception held April 19 in the Student Lounge.
