The LBJ School Advisory Council met in Washington, D.C., during November to discuss ways to improve and develop fundraising, faculty and student recruitment, and new research areas. It was the first time the group had met in the nation's capital.

According to LBJ School Dean Ed Dorn, the purpose of the meeting was to get "real-world feedback" from the Advisory Council so that School officials can adapt to a changing job market, adjust the curriculum as needed, and learn how to develop new resources.

During the meeting--which was held at the offices of Greenberg Traurig, attorneys at law--discussions focused on how the School's new initiatives in health and social policy, technology and public policy, leadership, and nonprofit management can be used to recruit top students and faculty.

While in Washington, Council members also attended an evening reception for D.C.-based alumni and friends of the LBJ School.

Since the Advisory Council was created in October 1998, it has met twice a year in Austin. Beginning in 2002, the full 40-member Council will meet only once a year in Austin; Council subcommittees will hold meetings with the dean on a quarterly basis.
