Marshall Center Director Chris King wins appreciation award
Christopher T. King, director of the LBJ School's Ray Marshall Center for the Study of Human Resources, was selected as the 2001-02 recipient of the LBJ Appreciation Award. The award recognizes a staff member whose reliability, common sense, initiative, and positive attitude make life easier for those in the LBJ School community. A committee composed of faculty, students, and staff members makes the selection each year. According to nominations cast in his favor, King "establishes a challenging intellectual environment and acts as a mentor to students." One person said it was hard to imagine the Marshall Center without King and described him as an individual with "a rare combination" of sensitivity, integrity, energy, and intelligence. King has been associated since 1980 with the Marshall Center, where he conducts research on labor markets and human resource development issues. He has also researched performance management and measurement issues for a wide array of education and training programs. Prior to joining the LBJ School, King performed policy research for U.S. Secretary of Labor Ray Marshall and was a member of the University of Utah economics faculty. From 1983 to 1985 he directed the research, demonstration, and evaluation component of the Texas JTPA (Job Training Partnership Act) program in the Texas Governor's Office. The LBJ Appreciation Award was established in 1990 as part of the School's anniversary year celebration. Since its inception, the cash award has been presented to 22 staff members. |
