Schmandt will retire in May

Professor Jurgen Schmandt has announced he will retire at the end of May. He has been a member of the faculty since 1971 and was the first full-time professor recruited by LBJ School founding Dean John Gronouski. In addition to serving as a professor, Schmandt also served as acting dean and associate dean in the mid 1970s. Since 1985, Schmandt has held a concurrent appointment at the Mitchell Center for Sustainable Development (formerly called the Center for Global Studies), where he serves as director. The Mitchell Center is part of the Houston Advanced Research Center, a nonprofit university-linked organization fostering scientific research and technology development.
