Professor Robert Wilson (behind chair) is shown with members of an LBJ School policy research project team that assessed innovative state and local government initiatives for managing urban sprawl in 15 states. The project’s codirector is Robert Paterson (standing next to Wilson), who is the associate dean for research and operations at the UT School of Architecture and director of the Graduate Program in Community and Regional Planning.

Since last year, the LBJ School and the U.S. Congressional Research Service (CRS) have been collaborating on various projects. The agreement has given students an opportunity to engage in research that will be incorporated into formal CRS reports to members and committees of the U.S. Congress. In addition to the urban sprawl project, two other policy research projects were sponsored by the CRS this year—“Congressional Reauthorization of the Federal Highway and Transit Programs,” directed by Leigh Boske, and “Internet Use in Developing and Newly Industrializing Countries,” directed by Kenneth Flamm.
