Alan "Scotty" Campbell, who served as dean of the
LBJ School for three months in 1977, died February 4 at his home in
Haverford, Pennsylvania. Campbell assumed the deanship of the LBJ
School on February 1, 1977, and then left at the end of April when
President Jimmy Carter appointed him to head the U.S. Civil Service
Commission. As commissioner, Campbell enacted sweeping reforms in the
federal personnel system and oversaw the creation of the Presidential
Management Internship Program.
