Bárbara Robles joined the LBJ School faculty this spring semester as an assistant professor of public affairs. Robles, who has a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Maryland-College Park, has a joint appointment with the UT Austin Center for Mexican American Studies (CMAS). Before coming to the LBJ School, Robles worked from 1995 to 1997 as an economist for the U.S. |

Congress Joint Committee on Taxation on issues dealing with the national sales tax. Robles also served on the faculty of the University of Colorado at Boulder from 1990 to 1995, where she taught macroeconomic theory, econometrics, and monetary theory. Her policy specializations are in taxation, public financial management, and microeconomics. Research interests include the supply and demand for finance capital and credit, particularly among minority- and women-owned small businesses. This semester, Robles is teaching public financial management at the LBJ School and undergraduate classes at CMAS on public policy issues affecting Latinos. Among her recent publications are "Women in the U.S.: An Economic Profile," in Women and Work: Race, Ethnicity, and Class (Sage Publishers, 1997); and "Finance Capital in Dynamic Factor Demand Models," in Applied Economics (1995). Robles belongs to a number of professional organizations, including the American Economic Association. Since 1992 she has served on that group's Committee on the Status of Minorities in the Profession and has helped develop strategies to encourage minorities to explore and pursue careers in economics. She is also on the Board of Economists for Hispanic Business magazine. |
