Schwab leaves LBJ School for new position Three years after becoming the LBJ School's first development officer, Carlton Schwab (LBJ Class of 1983) left the School in January to become the president and chief executive officer of the Texas Economic Development Council. During his tenure at the LBJ School, Schwab worked on several fundraising campaigns and raised over $2 million. Two of the campaigns were memorial projects--one to establish a chair in ethics and political values in Barbara Jordan's name, and the other to fund a summer internship in the name of the late Steven Lowell Spinner (LBJ Class of 1984). Schwab also organized a major campaign to establish the Max Sherman Chair in State and Local Government, which was created when Sherman retired from the deanship of the LBJ School. In addition, Schwab worked on establishing an endowed professorship in the name of Lynn Anderson when he retired after more than 50 years of work as a teacher, researcher, and administrator at UT Austin. At the time of his departure, Schwab was working on the development of two new centers--the Center for Ethical Leadership and the Southwest Center for Philanthropy, Volunteerism, and Nonprofit Management. He had also started a fundraising campaign to create an endowment for the LBJ School-based Center for the Study of Human Resources. |
