Description: This seminar aims to provide students with a rich grounding in a range of areas relating to the problem of terrorism. First, we will examine the scholarly literature relating to terrorism, with a special emphasis on political violence associated with what some describe as the global jihad movement. Second, we will examine the history of U.S. counterterrorism law and policy, with particular attention paid to those topics in the years immediately prior to 9/11 and to subsequent changes. Third, we will examine a broad selection of scholarship, memoirs, and other materials examining, defending, and criticizing post-9/11 law and policy.
