Description: Through lectures, classroom simulations and exercises, readings, discussions, presentations by guest speakers, and writing assignments, students will learn about key factors affecting the management of an organization overseas and develop the skills and knowledge necessary to be an effective international manager. The course will focus on organizations in the public, international and non-profit sectors. Students will look at external factors that affect an organizationís foreign operations: the host government, the culture, the local security situation, the economy and local availability of resources, including human resources, etc. They will also examine internal management functions affected by operating in a foreign location: human resource management, financial and budget operations, administrative services for expatriate staff, security and crisis management operations, etc.
