Description: This seminar will examine economic issues related to defense and energy technology policy. Topics to be examined will include the theory, design, and practice of government policies intended to develop military technology, policies to foster, curtail, or otherwise regulate the development and use of energy technologies, and the interaction between these two sets of policies. Students will be asked to undertake short research projects illuminating both the historical antecedents and current state of policy debates over the practice of technology and industrial policy by the U.S. military and energy establishments. These research projects will require examining a policy issue analytically, defining the issues, formulating a policy recommendation, and defending that analysis and recommendation in both oral and written settings.
