Description: What do the residents of Fort Bend County, located outside of Houston, truly need and want most from programs in health, human services, and education? This is the question posed by the George Foundation in Richmond, Texas, a private foundation with substantial assets and a commitment to helping those in need in the local community. This project will involve conceptualizing and executing a broad and complex needs assessment for a diverse and changing county. The client seeks information that will allow it to understand local conditions and improve its grantmaking work. Students will design surveys, travel around Fort Bend conducting interviews with community leaders, collect demographic and funding data in the county, develop a map of resources and needs, and ultimately draft a report for the George Foundation. The project will expose students to the process of developing and delivering a comprehensive community needs assessment.
