Description:Please join CHASP on Tuesday, October 16 as Dr. Douglas Harris of Tulane University presents his research at a colloquium in SRH 3.122 at 12:15 pm. The title of his talk is "Is Traditional College Financial Aid Too Little, Too Late? Early Results from a Randomized Trial of a 'Promise' Scholarship for Low-Income Students."

Dr. Harris plans to discuss:
- The rationale for a "promise" college scholarship program (e.g. the rising costs of college)
- How the design of the demonstration program emerged
- His study's methodological issues (e.g. conducting a randomized control trial)
- Highlights of what his research is revealing so far

Douglas N. Harris is Associate Professor of Economics and University Endowed Chair in Public Education at Tulane University. His research explores how students educational outcomes are influenced by school choice, standards, teacher evaluation, test-based accountability, college financial aid, and college access programs. A former school board member, his research marries theory and rigorous research with the practical realities of schooling.
Dr. Harris has advised eight state departments of education, elected officials at all levels of government, and groups such as the National Academy of Sciences, National Council of State Legislatures, National Governors Association, and National School Boards Association. His work is frequently cited in the national media, including CNN, Education Week, The New York Times, and The Washington Post.

The colloquium is free and open to the public, but registration at http://chaspharris.eventbrite.com/ is requested for catering purposes. Light refreshments will be served.
