Providing young leaders with a dynamic, substantive base of knowledge is the cornerstone of the CPG's efforts. Toward that end the CPG will provide a wide selection of course offering covering a diverse array of political topics led by some of the profession's foremost experts and practitioners. Below are a few examples of current and future offerings:
Led by renowned political documentarian Dr. Paul Stekler, the MAPC helps students understand the intricacies of modern campaigning. The course uses an innovative mix of lecture, film study, and interaction with current practitioners to provide a truly dynamic campaign experience. Past and future guest instructors include Bush/Cheney strategists Matthew Dowd and Mark McKinnon, Barack Obama media director David Axelrod, Dallas Morning News lead political reporter and co-author of "Bush's Brain" Wayne Slater, pollster Chalrie Cook, and Time political analyst Mark Halperin.
An evolving electorate combined with new voting technologies has led to multiple recent changes in the way we regulate the vote. The CPG's Election Law and Application course helps students navigate those laws for use in future political campaigns and policy applications.
This course considers broad policy and political considerations regarding the U.S. Latino community, often referred to as the "sleeping giant." The course examines the current state of the Hispanic community - both nationally and in key states such as Texas - to develop a greater understanding of the dynamics at work as the Latino community exerts its considerable influence. The course addresses a number of topics including politics, education, immigration, voting, and media impact.
