How A Graduate Student Challenged Goliath on the Economic Question of the Decade

The debate over austerity and economic growth was roiled even further when Thomas Herndon, a graduate student at the University of Massachussetts Amherst, found flaws in Kenneth Rogoff and Carmen Reinhart's widely-cited paper "Growth in a Time of Debt". Attempting to replicate their work, his critique found errors in their calculations and spurred further debate over the of debt and austerity on economic growth.
