Lynn Anderson, Retired LBJ School Faculty Member, Dies at 90

AUSTIN, Texas—September 5, 2011—Lynn Anderson, a retired faculty member of the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs, died on September 3, 2011 at the age of 90. Professor Anderson held various teaching, research, and administrative positions with the University of Texas from 1946 until his retirement in 1997, including the directorship of the Institute of Public Affairs prior to the opening of the LBJ School in 1970.

Lynn AndersonHis fields of teaching and research included public management and finance, state/local/urban affairs, and health policy. In addition to his academic duties, he was a pioneer in the development and conduct of continuing education and professional development programs for public officials. From 1970 to 1987 he served as Director of the LBJ School's Office of Conferences and Training, which conducts an array of programs for public officials and citizens.

“Lynn Anderson was one of the giants in the field of government accounting,” said Robert Hutchings, dean of the LBJ School. "The biennial conference for new members of the Texas legislature that he pioneered four decades ago continues to this day as a partnership between the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs and the Offices of the Lieutenant Governor and the Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives. Through his teaching, research, and professional development programs, Lynn Anderson exemplified the highest ideals of public service to which the LBJ School is dedicated."

Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at the University Methodist Church. The burial will be held at Austin Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the Endowment Fund at the University Methodist Church, his professorship at the LBJ School, or Hospice Austin.
