LBJ Alumnus and Vice President of the East West Institute David Firestein Delivers Talks on U.S. – Chinese Relations and the Role of Government in American Life
On March 29, 2012, LBJ School alumnus, former LBJ faculty member, former diplomat and current Vice President of the East West Institute David Firestein discussed the evolving influence of China on U.S. politics at the Affordable World Security Conference in Washington, D.C. Firestein called for more careful public discussions. “Discourse about U.S.– China relations is important, because it has an impact not only on the tone but on the substance,” Firestein said.

On April 4, 2012, Firestein spoke at the East West Institute's New York Center to affirm the positive value of government in the lives of Americans in the 21st Century. Firestein argued that altering the narrative in which government is a problem rather than a solution “is required if we are to restore the health of our national treasury, and I would argue the health of our democracy.”
