Edwin Dorn heads Kettering Foundation board LBJ School Professor Edwin Dorn has been elected chairman of the board of trustees of the Kettering Foundation, a well-known national foundation that conducts and sponsors research about public policy, the conduct of public discourse and the processes of democratic governance. Dorn, who served as LBJ School dean from 1997 to 2004, has been a member of the Kettering Foundation’s board of trustees since 2000. “As a member of the foundation’s board, Ed Dorn has provided a great service,” said Kettering Foundation President David Mathews. “He brings a wealth of experience to the board’s leadership position.” Before coming to the LBJ School, Dorn served for four years as assistant secretary and then as under secretary of defense for personnel and readiness. Previously, Dorn was a senior staff member at the Brookings Institution, where he developed executive education programs for government and private sector managers. From 1981 to 1990, he served as deputy director for research at the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies. Chartered as an operating corporation, the Kettering Foundation has $280 million in assets and does not award grants. Current foundation projects include ongoing exchanges with public policy experts in China and other countries as well as research on ways in which the American public can be more effective in addressing significant issues such as education and environmental protection. Dorn is also the chair of the visiting committee of the Institute for Defense Analyses, a federally funded research and development center located in Arlington, Virginia. |
