LBJ School’s new global policy studies degree garnering recognition

AUSTIN, Texas-- Sept. 15, 2008-- Word is quickly spreading about the LBJ School’s inaugural Master of Global Policy Studies (MGPS) program, generating positive early reviews in its debut semester.

Former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine K. Albright helped launch the MGPS program during a discussion at the School last week, drawing attention from both mainstream media outlets and blogs. Over the weekend, the Austin American-Statesman published a glowing editorial applauding the LBJ School’s international initiative.

“In a world increasingly intertwined economically, politically and environmentally, Texas' very size, ambition and economic strength make it ever more important that it develop the intellectual and educational resources needed to help influence, not just react to, international affairs,” the editorial states. “Texas should not leave that work to schools in California and New York.”
