Redistricting May Push Other Issues Aside, Greenberg Says

In an interview broadcast on Austin’s KXAN-TV, Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs Professor Sherri Greenberg expressed concern about the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to uphold the Texas Legislature’s reconfiguration of the state’s congressional districts in 2003. Greenberg—who represented Austin in the Texas House of Representatives for 10 years before coming to the LBJ School—said that congressional redistricting is often a contentious process that impacts legislative bipartisanship. In a 2003 article for the LBJ Journal Greenberg questioned the value of focusing on congressional redistricting to the exclusion of other major public policy matters like health care, tax policy, and public education.
