LBJ Alumnus Recognized by Dallas Business Journal with Minority Corporate Executive Award

Alumnus Irvin Ashford (LBJ Class of 1994) was recognized by the Dallas Business Journal at the inaugural 2008 Minority Business Leader Awards luncheon with a Minority Corporate Executive Award. Honorees are also featured in the June 20th issue of the Dallas Business Journal.

Mr. Ashford is vice president for Public Affairs and manager of the statewide Community Reinvestment Act Program for CoAmerica Bank's Texas market. Mr. Ashford joined CoAmerica Bank in 2000. He was named one of CoAmerica's Volunteers of the Year in 2006 for his work in the community. Also that year, he won a Chairman's Outstanding Achievement Award for leadership from CoAmerica. In 2007, he was presented with the Chairman's Outstanding Achievement Award for Quality.

His civic and community involvement includes serving on the board of directors for the University of Dallas Alumni, The Plan Fund, Kym's Kids, Nova Charter School, and YMCA Community Services. He is a lifetime member of the Urban Financial Services Coalition and the National Forum for Black Public Administrators.

He was named to the 2007 United States delegate class of the British-American Project. Mr. Ashford is the recipient of the 2007 Sam G. Winstead Award from the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas, an award honoring his leadership and support of program initiatives for the southern sector of Dallas. The Dallas-Fort Worth chapters of the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA) and the National Black MBA Association (NBMBAA) also honored Mr. Ashford in 2007 with their Business Community Award. In addition, the Dallas Black Police Association named him the 2007 Community Advocate of the Year.
