Esther Reyes is a third year PhD student at the LBJ School. Esther graduated from Baylor University summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Social Work. She then pursued a Master of Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania, where she was awarded the Ruth E. Smalley Award in International Social Welfare as a result of demonstrating interest in and knowledge of the international and cultural dimensions in social work practice. Prior to attending the LBJ School, Esther worked with Latino immigrants in Philadelphia and across Texas to advocate for access to basic services and against inhumane immigration policies. Esther’s academic interests include bureaucratic behavior, democracy, human rights, and border enforcement policy.
